Turning Goals into SMART Goals

What are your personal goals for participating in a pageant?  Or, why do you want to win the “Miss” title you are competing for?  Is it the scholarships, the personal development, to promote an issue you are passionate about, or all of the above?

Some areas of goal setting to consider for a successful pageant competition can be:

Style: fitness and appearance; how you present yourself and how you may be perceived by others; how you represent the local pageant organization, community, state and national pageant systems as a contestant.

Service: your platform and community service

Scholarship: keeping your grades up and pursuing financial awards for further education

Success: reaching small goals that lead to bigger goals

What are some of the goals you have set for yourself?

Once you have identified your “Why?” It is time to transform your goal into actionable steps that will yield results.  Actionable steps are the daily, weekly and monthly tasks that need to be accomplished in order to achieve your goal.  These tasks are specifically geared toward helping you become your best self in a given area.  The objective is to turn your goals into manageable, realistic steps.  This is done using a method known as SMART goal setting.  SMART goals are short and long term goals that are:

S- specific

M- measurable

A- attainable

R- realistic

T- time bound

An example of a SMART goal is as follows:

Goal: To teach goal setting

SMART Goal: To utilize TheOrganizedMiss.com as an educational platform for young women living the “Miss” lifestyle and to share tools to assist them in setting and achieving their goals.

Hopefully this guideline to SMART Goal setting has given you some new tools to help you reach your goals.  I am including a free printable entitled “Smart Goal Setting Steps” to help you get started.   Good luck and reach for the stars!

Remember: You are your only competition!

Success Tracker

The above quote is one of my favorites and highlights a secret known by many successful individuals.  In order to make progress in life, you must set and work towards goals. Whether you are working on changing a bad habit, acquiring a good one or implementing strategic action to obtain excellence in a specific field, goal setting is crucial to your success.  Just as important as setting goals are to putting you on a path to success, tracking the progress of your goals is a key component to achieving that success.

Show me your calendar/planner and I will be able to tell you what you value and how successful you will be in reaching your goals.  Do you goal plan?  Is your schedule and tasks organized according to your desired outcomes?  Do you track the habits necessary for success?  I can guarantee that if you do, you will make discoveries about yourself and be able to reach success in areas that before were out of reach.

I have designed a monthly calendar and success tracker for use in reaching your goals. This eight-page digital printable has a  monthly (July) view and a week on two pages.  The left side of the page has a weekly with Monday start and the right side of the page has “This week’s focus” and is divided into three categories (Scholarship, Service, Style) so you can easily identify and focus on the tasks to be accomplished.

The bottom section of the page has a Success Tracker for you to list the habits/actions you intend to consistently practice and monitor for a successful week.  The last few pages contain a Project Management section for SMART Goal planning and a Task Checklist.  The sooner you start tracking your goals, the closer you will get to reaching them!

Happy Goal Planning!

STYLE

What comes to mind when you think of style?  How do you define style?  Perhaps a better question is, how do you define your style?  Style encompasses the ‘how’ you do something.  Style is not just how you dress or how you style your hair, but style is also how you walk, how you talk – your behaviors and mannerisms.  And style all begins with how you think!

How you think about yourself and the world around you are fundamental in shaping your personal style.  For example, an individual who loves animals and chooses to eat a vegan diet and abstain from wearing clothes manufactured from animal skins will have a different style than an individual whose priorities in life are not aligned in the same manner and therefore wears products made from animals.  Neither is inherently right or wrong, just a personal choice that is reflected in their lifestyle and thus defines their style.

As you can see from the example above, thoughts are powerful in shaping your individual style.  Are your thoughts positive or negative?  These thoughts will lay the groundwork for all of your choices.  Your choices eventually display themselves in how you dress, how you walk, how you talk and the activities and organizations you are involved in.  Yes, these are all considered a part of your ‘style’ and your style is uniquely your own.

Additionally, style is expressed through body language, those nonverbal cues that subtly signal information to others more powerfully than words.  Those subtle messages can communicate what is often referred to as ‘je ne sais pas’ which translated means “I don’t know.”  However, when used to describe a person’s characteristics it means the quality of being or possessing something indescribable, as in “She has that certain je ne sais pas.” You may have also heard the phrase referred to as ‘IT’ – as in “She has the ‘IT’ factor.” This essence of style is not something than can be taught or bought.  It is a state of being and is rooted in a person’s image of themselves  – how they think about themselves and the world around them.  This way of thinking permeates their every choice.

Your style is constantly communicating a message to the world about you.  Style is the way of saying who you are without having to say a word.

What does your style communicate to others?

Documenting the Journey

You are on the journey to the crown.  Congratulations!

Now what?

Besides all the appearances, community service projects, keeping up your grades, searching for scholarships, maintaining a healthy lifestyle with proper nutrition and fitness, you have paperwork to fill out,  in addition to going to class and perhaps work!

Your year of service to the organization that has crowned you as their Miss will go by fast and it is important to document your successes, lessons and anything else you may want to remember or share with others.

Whether your style of documentation life consists of creating a scrapbook, documenting in ‘Project Life’ style, video formats or some other system, it is important to tell the story once you have captured images from your life and journey to success.

Below you will find journal cards to use in your documentation.  Simply print out, cut to use with or without the frame, journal the important information on the card and pair it with your documentation.

Happy Memorial Day!

Feeling so very grateful for the men and women who have ever put on a military uniform!

Members of my family have served our country during war and peace time and it is not only because of their service but also the service and sacrifice of so many others that I enjoy the freedoms granted to me as a result.

In honor of Memorial Day, I have created these journal cards (3×4 and 4×6) to use in my scrapbook and am sharing them here with you to use as well.

Have a Happy Memorial Day and if you are a current or former member of our military, whether during war or peacetime, Thank for your service!

Organization for the “Miss” Lifestyle – FREE PRINTABLE

Welcome!

You are busy.  You have goals.  You need a way to organize your busy life and reach your goals.  The Organized Miss was developed with you in mind.

To celebrate getting the site live and to motivate myself to keep working, I designed a free printable for you!   I love gifts and sharing the planner stickers I make and use to help stay on task with my goals is one of the greatest gift I can give you.

I have been using planners in some form or another for years, but earlier this year I was introduced to the Happy Planner and took a big swan drive into pretty planning.  Not only is it encouraging and motivating, it can be quite relaxing and therapeutic to design your day with colorful decorations.

This printable was designed for the Large Happy Planner, as it had been difficult for me to find many in that size.  My struggle is your gain.  Just click on the image below and save, print and cut!
